Chrome's default new tab is built to pull you somewhere: search, shortcuts, suggested content. newleaf replaces it with a minimalist dashboard: rotating nature photography, a clock and date you can shape to your taste, and the handful of links you actually use.
There's nothing to sign up for and nothing watching you. newleaf requests no browser permissions, collects no data, and keeps your saved links locally on your device.
newleaf is also open source: the full extension code is available on GitHub, so you can see exactly what it does (and what it doesn't), or try it in your browser before installing.
